In 1987 I had the honor of being introduced to master violin maker Vincenzo Monacelli. I soon began an apprenticeship under his guidance. Not long after, the first Michael Lyons violin was born! Since then, hundreds of violins have come alive in my workshop, many through restoration and renovation. Every violin placed with a new owner or renter provides a great sense of pride.
One aspect of the violin community that is not so pleasing to me is the misconception that an exceptionally built violin with superb tone must come with an outrageous price tag. This is just not so. Over the past twenty years our goal has been to provide exceptional violins to players of all levels at a reasonable cost.
